I’m an economic developer by trade – building community is one of my favorite interests. I have the privilege of helping communities and clients make crucial economic growth decisions across the U.S. I have supported more than $640 million in capital investment and the creation of more than 5,200 jobs. I am a certified economic developer through the International Economic Development Council – a certification belonging to only 1,200 people – and hold three degrees from Georgia College & State University.

I am passionate about economic and community development and how they coincide to change lives. To put my long-term goal simply – to help make a difference in a lot of neighborhoods in a lot of different ways.

I am happiest when my productivity lies in improving the world around me, so long as I don’t lose myself in the process. I don’t know if it is giving back as it is paying it forward, but I am glad that I get to do that here at home in Greenville.

What is your definition of a successful leader?

I think a successful leader prioritizes the well-being of the people and the communities entrusted to their care. It’s less about the immediate results; it’s about fostering an environment where people are safe to feel things, to learn things and to try things. I am interested in whether leaders prioritize active listening and empathy. Do they seek to understand the needs of others? Do they foster environments where people feel empowered? Do you foster collaboration for a shared sense of purpose? Do they embody ethical values and act with integrity? When the desire to serve precedes the ambition to lead, the very act of leadership itself becomes the measure of success.
